Re-entry from prison or any correctional facility is challenging and sometimes just plain scary. For it to work the reentrants need, safe housing, clothing, medical care, substance abuse recovery, employment, reentry mentor, relationship counseling and prayer.

I’d like to add one more item to the list, Re-Entry Coaching.

Re-Entry coaching offers several benefits, including personalized support, goal setting, skill development, accountability, and encouragement. It provides a structured framework for individuals to clarify their goals, overcome obstacles, and maximize their potential. Additionally, Re-Entry coaching fosters self-awareness, enhances decision-making abilities, and promotes continuous learning and growth.

Re-Entry coaching can be incredibly beneficial for individuals reentering society after incarceration or facing other significant life transitions. It provides personalized support tailored to their unique needs, helping them navigate challenges, set realistic goals, develop essential skills, and rebuild their lives. Re-Entry coaching can also offer accountability, encouragement, and a nonjudgmental space for individuals to reflect on their experiences and make positive changes. By empowering reentrants with the tools and confidence they need to succeed, coaching plays a crucial role in facilitating successful reintegration into society.

A Re-Entry Coach sets the parameters of the conversation, listens and contributes observations and questions, provides a roadmap for success, and assists the client as a team to achieve their desired goals. An action-based Re-Entry Coach accelerates the client’s progress by providing greater focus and awareness of choices, actions, and responsibility. Here are some benefits of having a Re-Entry Coach:

  • Clarity and Goal Setting: A Re-Entry Coach helps you gain clarity about your specific goals and supports you in achieving them.
  • Accountability: They hold you responsible for your actions and keep you on track toward your goals. Regular check-ins and progress evaluations, ensure that you stay committed and motivated.
  • Personal Growth and Development: Through introspection and self-reflection, a Re-Entry Coach helps you uncover your strengths, overcome limiting beliefs, and unlock your full potential.
  • Increased Self-Awareness: Re-Entry coaching promotes self-awareness. A life coach helps you get to know yourself better through reflection and introspection.

  • Improved Self-Confidence: By helping you recognize your achievements and strengths, a Re-Entry Coach helps you build a positive self-image. They also assist you in overcoming self-doubt and negative thoughts and negative self-talk, empowering you to take bold actions and embrace new opportunities.

  • Enhanced Focus and Clarity: Re-Entry coaching helps you gain clarity of thought. They provide valuable techniques and strategies to improve your productivity and concentration, enabling you to make progress faster.
  • Improved Relationships: A Re-Entry Coach can help you improve your communication skills, resolve conflicts, and build stronger connections with others.
  • Stress Reduction: Re-Entry coaching helps you manage stress. A Re-Entry Coach assists you in identifying stress triggers and developing effective coping mechanisms. They provide support and guidance to help you prioritize self-care, manage your time effectively, and reduce overwhelm.
  • Improved Decision Making: Re-Entry coaching enables you to make better decisions by helping you gain clarity and perspective.
  • Overcoming Obstacles: Re-Entry coaching provides you with the tools and strategies to overcome obstacles and challenges. A Re-Entry Coach helps you identify and address limiting beliefs, fears, and self-sabotaging patterns.
  • Pushing out of Comfort Zone: Re-Entry coaching pushes you out of your comfort zone. A Re-Entry Coach challenges you to step outside of your familiar routines, behaviors, and bad habits, encouraging you to take risks and embrace new experiences.
  • Overall Well-being: Life coaching contributes to your overall well-being. By addressing various aspects of your life, such as career, relationships, health, and personal growth, a Re-Entry Coach helps you create a balanced and fulfilling life.
  • Support and Encouragement: A Re-Entry Coach provides you with support and encouragement throughout your journey. They are there to listen to your concerns, celebrate your successes, and provide guidance when you face setbacks.
  • Spirituality: A Re-Entry Coach will help guide you in your quest to improve your conscious contact with God.

Let’s be honest—Easter, for many, has become just another holiday on the calendar. Bright pastel ads, last-minute retail runs, and overflowing candy aisles often drown out the deeper meaning of the season.

Some people leave a mark on your organization. Others leave a mark on your heart. Pastor Ricky D. Floyd did both. It’s hard to put into words what this man meant to me, to Kings & Priests, and to so many others who were blessed to cross his path.

January 3, 2021, at Blessing Hospital in Quincy, Illinois, after over six hours in the ER and numerous blood draws and testing, I was informed by the doctor.

I was seven the first time I hid a crack pipe. It was used, still warm, and I slid it under the big blue sectional before my big brother could open the door. He was at the front, shaking. “My mom said not to let anybody in,” he kept repeating.

May is Mental Health Awareness Month and an opportune time for us to examine where we are as a people as well as a church when it comes to the stigmatization that continues to follow this critical area of our well-being. While society overall has begun trending toward more awareness, there has not been that same movement in churches, especially congregations that are historically houses of worship for people of color.

“For the love of money is the root of all evil: which while some coveted after, they have erred from the faith, and pierced themselves through with many sorrows.”

Marriage is ministry. It’s not about who leads, who follows, who talks louder, or who works harder. It’s about two people walking in agreement under God’s covering, carrying the weight of life together, and building a love that honors the Lord.

When most people think of the Prison Ministry, they think of going inside the correctional facilities. That is my passion, and I’ve done it for forty-seven years; however, I realize that other people find going into a facility intimidating.

To everything, there is a season. As one season comes to a close, another begins. Just as Moses passed the mantle to Joshua, I am honored to pass the mantle of leadership to Evangelist Leandra Green as the new pastor of Believers Temple Word Fellowship.
