Discernment Is Deliverance: When Warfare Is Really Wellness
"Bishop Miah White"
Too often, believers are quick to blame the devil for what is really the body’s cry for wisdom. You are not cursed, you are depleted. Before you cast something out, check your levels. Before you call it warfare, consider your wellness. Before you plan another fast, fix your plate. Before you rebuke the enemy, rest your body.
Some of what we label spiritual warfare is actually nutritional neglect. It’s chronic burnout baptized as intercession. It is adrenal fatigue masquerading as a demonic attack. It is hormonal imbalance, not hell breaking loose. It’s dehydration, not demonization. It’s a sleep deficit, not a spiritual stronghold. Sometimes what feels like an assault from the enemy is actually your nervous system, endocrine system, or gut-brain axis begging you to pay attention.
I know this firsthand. For months, I was constantly fatigued. My thoughts were cloudy, my focus scattered, and my energy felt drained. I kept telling myself it was warfare. That the enemy was attacking my mind and body because of the assignment I was carrying. I prayed harder, fasted longer, and pushed through, convinced that it was a spiritual storm. But one day, Holy Spirit nudged me with a simple truth: “This isn’t the devil, it’s depletion.”
When I finally went to the doctor, my bloodwork revealed that my iron levels were extremely low. What I had been calling warfare was actually anemia. I had to undergo iron infusions to rebuild my levels. Once they rose, the brain fog lifted, the fatigue faded, and my focus returned. It wasn’t deliverance I needed, it was discernment. That experience taught me a crucial truth: sometimes the breakthrough God wants to give us begins with balance, not battle.
Every imbalance isn’t an altar call. Some of it is your body crying out for wisdom, and wisdom is spiritual. True discernment doesn’t only bind; it balances. It doesn’t just war; it warns. It doesn’t only pray; it plans. It doesn’t just shout; it supplements. It doesn’t only lay hands; it lays boundaries.
We must get honest with ourselves. Many are not being tormented, they’re simply iron deficient. That brain fog you’re rebuking could be low B-12 or magnesium. The fatigue you call warfare might be inflammation, dehydration, and overcommitment. The anxiety that feels demonic may actually be your nervous system in overload. The confusion you’ve labeled witchcraft could be blood-sugar instability. The emotional crash that feels like a spiritual collapse might just be cortisol exhaustion.
Even hopelessness isn’t always an unclean spirit. It can be an unbalanced serotonin level.
Wellness, therefore, is not separate from spirituality; it is spiritual maturity. God’s desire is not only for your spirit to experience revival but also for your body to live in regulation. He wants your discernment dialed in, not dulled by neglect. Sometimes the most anointed thing you can do is hydrate, unplug, replenish, and rest. Rest is revelation. Stillness is strategy. Wholeness is warfare.
As 3 John 1:2 (NKJV) declares, “Beloved, I pray that you may prosper in all things and be in health, just as your soul prospers.” Prosperity is not limited to finances; it is physiological. Don’t only fast for miracles, let’s fuel for maintenance. You cannot steward glory in a system that is falling apart.
To support your health and holiness, here’s a simple Wellness Toolkit to begin restoring balance to your temple:
• Vitamin D3: sunlight in capsule form mood, bones, and immune strength.
• Magnesium Glycinate: supports calm, sleep, and stress regulation.
• Iron: combats fatigue, hair loss, and brain fog.
• Omega-3s: nourishes the brain, hormones, and joints.
• B-Complex: energizes the nervous system and supports metabolism.
• Probiotics: fortifies the gut-brain connection, vital for mood and immunity.
• Ashwagandha or Rhodiola: adaptogens that stabilize stress and enhance resilience.
• Zinc: essential for immune and hormone balance.
• Electrolytes: restore true hydration at the cellular level.
• And beyond supplements: choose whole food, gentle movement, and Sabbath rest.
Let’s stop calling imbalance the enemy. It’s not always warfare; sometimes it’s wisdom deferred. Your temple isn’t lying to you, it’s talking! The next dimension of discernment requires that you listen, nourish, and honor your body as the sacred vessel it is.
When we take care of our bodies, we sharpen our spirits. When we rest, we realign. When we replenish, we hear God more clearly. Because sometimes, the most spiritual thing you can do… is take a nap, drink some water, and schedule that lab test.
