"Godly Men In The Church"
Pastor Jimmy Prather

The world has desensitized the meaning of manhood given by God. According to the Word in 1 Corinthians 6:9 the unrighteous shall not inherit the kingdom of God and one of the listed sins is effeminate. To better understand, this word means with reference to a man having characteristics and ways of behaving traditionally associated with women and regarded as inappropriate for a man. There are so many men who will not come to church anymore because they think that the men in the church are no longer manly men. They remember their grandfathers, fathers, and uncles as manly men and because the church has allowed this effeminate spirit to operate and become comfortable when the church is supposed to be a place of deliverance from such spirits.

Men of today’s church are leaders that are not willing to be fathers to the fatherless. They have a selfish spirit believing if it’s not my own home or if it’s not my church then they are not bothered, not realizing when one man fails, we all fail. Whereas men of the old church would reach out and take the young men hunting or were willing to be a boy scout leader even if they didn’t have a son.

The men of the church are to set the tone but because the men have dropped the ball the women started doing more of the work in the church than the men which set a feminine tone. The future young brothers, deacons, ministers, prophets, etc. have taken on the tone that has been set by the women and the church has permitted and accepted a homosexual spirit to enter in. These men are also taking on the attributes of the women leading out in the church.

Instead of the church alluring - drawing them to Christ and changing their ways, helping men get delivered; they are allowing femineity in their men. Now the only manly men that the young men see are the men out in the world, not in the church anymore.

The resolution to this is for churches to have men’s meeting with the young men in the community. Men that have a trade could teach that trade to the young men. The scripture says how can a man understand the spiritual if he first doesn’t understand the natural. Male leaders can be a father to the fatherless by being a mentor. Proverbs 28:1 says that as the body of Christ we are to be bold as a lion so pastors, male leaders, and the men of God have to learn how to use their boldness to speak against such sin so that it will not corrupt the next generation to come.

Being Pastor Jimmy Prather, I am first mentoring the fathers to be leaders in their home and community then I help them to mentor their sons. Being a barber, I offer to teach the young men in my community this trade. I work with them on controlling their emotions, teaching them discipline: in workmanship, their academics at school, and their finances. Due to inconsistent male mentorship, there is a lack of discipline in our young men. There is no focus on the future; they are just concerned with the right now. That’s why we see so many young men toting and using guns because they are not thinking about their future or the effects their present actions have on their future.

From the beginning of time the church has been the go-to place for food, education, and security and if the men would take their rightful place and be the godly men that God has called us to be, our communities can be positively affected by the church again.

As Christians being bold as a lion, we understand that God has given us the power and authority to speak on sins and hinderances that comes against God’s plan for His creation. As a pastor, I recognize the power and authority I possess so with having such power and authority it causes one to stand alone sometimes. Yet and still with being alone we still have to speak out against the things that are not of God and come up with a solution to bring forth deliverance and an about face to return to God. Isaiah 62:1 says for Zion’s sake I will not keep silent and for Jerusalem’s sake I will not remain quiet. And due to my boldness is why I constantly speak out on these things.

No police officer sees a crime being committed and not engage the criminal so as them we are not to see such sin and not try to help.

In closing, my favorite quote I post regularly on Facebook, “Who wants to give their life to Christ?”

Let’s be honest—Easter, for many, has become just another holiday on the calendar. Bright pastel ads, last-minute retail runs, and overflowing candy aisles often drown out the deeper meaning of the season.

Some people leave a mark on your organization. Others leave a mark on your heart. Pastor Ricky D. Floyd did both. It’s hard to put into words what this man meant to me, to Kings & Priests, and to so many others who were blessed to cross his path.

I was seven the first time I hid a crack pipe. It was used, still warm, and I slid it under the big blue sectional before my big brother could open the door. He was at the front, shaking. “My mom said not to let anybody in,” he kept repeating.

May is Mental Health Awareness Month and an opportune time for us to examine where we are as a people as well as a church when it comes to the stigmatization that continues to follow this critical area of our well-being. While society overall has begun trending toward more awareness, there has not been that same movement in churches, especially congregations that are historically houses of worship for people of color.

Marriage is ministry. It’s not about who leads, who follows, who talks louder, or who works harder. It’s about two people walking in agreement under God’s covering, carrying the weight of life together, and building a love that honors the Lord.

To everything, there is a season. As one season comes to a close, another begins. Just as Moses passed the mantle to Joshua, I am honored to pass the mantle of leadership to Evangelist Leandra Green as the new pastor of Believers Temple Word Fellowship.
