Artificial Intelligence
"Donna Scott"
Blessings All! I recently posted on my personal Facebook some AI Generated images of myself with this caption. “So, there’s a lot of talk about AI and Chat GPT. We have LONG understood that technology was going to be the leverage for the “BEAST” in the end time!! I work in the IT community corporately and the evolution of strategic initiative AI for data analytics has been beneficial for coders, developers and programmers like me! BUT when using it for personal use PLEASE exercise discernment and NEVER use it in place of the VOICE or WORD of God. I understand fully the ramifications of AI in this hour, but meanwhile I LOVE taking what the devil desires to use as a weapon as a vehicle for change and exaltation of the things of God!” Surprisingly, I received some questions and even religious criticism. I am grateful for this opportunity to give more depth on my thoughts and as a prophetic voice to declare the warning of the Lord.
Artificial Intelligence did not just recently emerge, but has been around since mythical days, but saw real-life growth with the invention of the programmable digital computer in the 1940s. Serious discussion of creating an electronic brain quickly followed. By 1956 on the campus of Dartmouth College AI research was founded. The U.S. begun funding initiatives that cost millions of dollars, but by 1974 the government deemed this funding unproductive and stopped supporting the advancement of AI. Subsequently, the Japanese government found success and invested billions. It wasn’t until the 2020’s that the AI boom began to take off further with the development of things like Chat GPT. This development of human-like traits of knowledge, attention, and creativity, was integrated into various sectors, fueling exponential investment in AI.
Today AI has become the shining light in the technology community, but ultimately is a dark spot in the religious/church community. Many believe that AI has and will further become a reduction of humanity and the human experience to a data flow or taping into a digital cloud. The thought that technology and science is tampering with the creation of mankind we see in Genesis 1:27 has become one of the talking points that has ramped up the opposition to the use of AI within the church. While this is not the only talking point, it is my opinion that our emphasis on avoiding this powerful technology would be better used in fueling the ways the church can use this powerful tool as a weapon in our toolbox to reach the world for Jesus.
My first argument would be for any individual to decide if AI would be a natural tool or spiritual one? My unequivocal answer to this question is a resounding NATURAL! I know many will dispute this answer, but my answer is purely based on my belief that the voice of GOD is the sovereign voice for ALL spiritual matters. Grammatical corrections, engaging graphics, historical facts, and revealing and discovering history are all great and should stop there. Once we consider AI to answer in God’s stead or in place of biblical guidance, we have now established altars, where we offer our minds or should I say souls on the altars of technology.
Recently the Christian podcast, Nomad, interviewed the AI bot, ChatGPT, on the implications of using AI particularly in faith settings. ChatGPT came up with some thoughtful comments emphasizing that: “ AI brings new dimensions of opportunity, but this must go hand in hand with responsibility”. The key is RESPONSIBILITY! AI is not going away but rather there are behind the scenes efforts to enhance its capabilities even more. The future of AI is huge. Not just for the technology of it all, but for the lucrative opportunities this one area in the technical community is fostering. Data centers being built in cities throughout the country offer new jobs for the community and huge contracts for energy delivery organizations.
It is my desire to spark conversation and real introspection in this area. By giving the positive aspects is not an attempt to persuade, but to show how like much of what the 21st century new inventions this too can serve as something positive for our everyday life ad life’s responsibilities, but like many of these inventions, in the wrong hands or wrong motives or under the demonic influence it can be detrimental. There is one simple biblical truth that should prompt us to steer away from the desire to take this tool as our spiritual guide. ! GOD IS A JEALOUS GOD! Sisters, Brothers, Friend and Enemies if there is nothing else you remember in THIS article, please remember this one thing putting anything before or in place of God WILL prove to be a deadly mistake. Check your AI use and know if it is of GOD!
