The Role of A Spiritual Father
"Bryan Cutshall"

This week has been a powerful reminder of one of my divine assignments in this season: the role of a spiritual father. I’ve had the joy of sitting with several young ministers, pouring into their lives, encouraging their calling, and helping shape their future. I have two more of those meetings today.
Just a few nights ago at OCI, we dedicated nine children to the Lord, and I taught on the importance of raising godly children. Moments like these confirm that while I may not be old, I have stepped into a different season—one that I once resisted. After years of traveling, speaking, and training leaders, stepping into the spiritual father role felt, at first, like a step down. But I was wrong. It wasn’t a demotion—it was a divine promotion.
It reminds me of Elijah. At one point in his life, God shifted his assignment—from being a prophet to becoming a spiritual father. That transition happened in a place of prayer and fasting. Elijah entered that moment as a prophet and emerged as a father.
God gave him a new commission:
• Anoint Hazael.
• Anoint Jehu.
• Anoint Elisha.
And with that, God gave him two clear instructions:
1. Return to your ministry.
2. Raise up sons and daughters.
In essence, God said, “Stop focusing only on your journey and start preparing the next generation for theirs.”
From that point forward, everything changed.
Those who had followed Elijah were no longer called the company of prophets—they became known as the SONS OF THE PROPHET.
And Elisha, his spiritual son, carried on the mantle by establishing a school—a dwelling place for young prophets to live, learn, and be equipped. From that school, they were sent out to impact the world.
What a powerful reminder: God doesn’t just use us for a season—He shifts us into new ones to multiply His work through others. This is not a lesser calling; it is a legacy.
